Mapping and Data Help

Pike County GIS Homepage:

Click "Mapping and Data" from the main page to access the data query and mapping area of the site. The disclaimer screen will then appear. You must read the disclaimer and click Accept to continue into the mapping and data section. Contact the Pike County GIS Department if you have any questions about the disclaimer.

Using The Parcel Search Option:

The user can search by parcel after entering one of three options into the "Parcel Search" form: Owner Name (e.g. Jones), Control/Account Number (e.g. 000774), Map Number (e.g. 097.03-01-45 -). The search is not case sensitive and you may enter any part of the value to search.

Click "Search", then click once on a record in the box below. A report on the highlighted record is created. Now, the user can either click the "Print Data Report" button to print the document, click "Map Parcel" to zoom to the selected parcel in the map window, or close the form by clicking on "Close Data Window".

Using the District Selection Option:

Click the "District" tab to access the District Selection form. Click on the down arrow on the selection box. Choose a District, then click on the "Zoom to District" button.

The map will zoom to the area of the selected district.

The user can also use the map navigation tools to move around the map.

Layer Controls:
The checkboxes next to the layers control their visibility. Unchecking a layer will remove it from the next map produced. Checking a layer will turn it back on for the next map produced. After checking or unchecking the box next to the layer, click the "Refresh Map" button to update the map display.

 

Navigating within the map:
The tools across the top of the map are used to manipulate the map. The tools control what function happens when the map is clicked on. Click on a tool button to activate that function.

Map Search Tools:
Identify
Click on a parcel to display associated attribute information.
Measure
To measure a distance, click the starting and ending point on the map. The total distance and distance of the last segment, in feet, will appear at the top of the map.
Buffer 
Use one of the select tools to highlight a feature(s) to buffer. The following pop-up appears:

Choose a layer to perform the buffer on, and enter the distance to buffer. Click the "Create Buffer" button to highlight the buffer results on the map.
Select by Rectangle
To select the feature(s) of the active layer, define a rectangle by clicking on the map.
Clear Selection Click to clear all selected features on the map.

Map Navigation Tools:

Toggle Overview Map
Click to turn the overview map on or off.
Zoom In
Click on the map and the map will zoom in and center on that point.
Zoom Out
Click on the map and the map will zoom out and center on that point.
Zoom to Full Extent
Click to view entire map area.
Zoom to Active Layer
Click to zoom to the extent of the current active map layer.
Pan Map
Click on the map and the map will move to center on that point.
Pan to North
Click to move map extent to the North.
Pan to South
Click to move map extent to the South.
Pan to East
Click to move map extent to the East.
Pan to West
Click to move map extent to the West.
Back to Last Extent
Click to move the map to its previous extent.

Printing the map: 
Click to generate a layout of the map to print. After clicking the tool, a print form appears.. Type in the desired map title in the text box and press the "Create Print Page" button to generate a layout of the map.  The layout will appear in a separate browser window. Go to the browser "File" menu and select "Print". Select your printer and click "Print".
